Your hair is shedding, it’s getting harder and harder to detangle, when you wear your hair straight it sounds extremely crunchy at the ends…Sis alllll of these are signs that it is time (past due) for a well needed trim.

Trims are a vital piece of hair growth and length retention. You may question HOW trims are meant to help you actually grow your hair, cliche right? That’s what I’m here to explain to you.

The ends of your hair are the oldest and vulnerable parts of your entire hair shaft. They require quite the extra TLC that a lot of us tend to forget about. As hair grows, it is natural for the ends to be dry, split, break, shed. The process that i just described is exactly how it happens. So when you start noticing shorter areas in your crown, ample shedding, or just rough ends in general, that is a prime sign that it is time (or past time) for a trim. My general rule of thumb for my clients is to get a trim every 6-8 weeks. In between times I advise my clients to keep those ends moisturized girl!! I like to concoct essential oils and really focus on my ends, especially when I am wearing my natural hair out in it’s pure form. If protective styles are your choice of style, ensure that you are doing some kind of treatment or deep conditioning mask, ALONG with sealing those ends with your favorite oils prior to putting your hair up.

The science behind “trims”

As stated above, your hair gets dry, splits, and breaks. The more your hair breaks, the shorter your hair gets, so though you may see plenty of new growth, you aren’t noticing it because your hair is not retaining length due to the breakage caused from split ends. Basically put, your hair grows and splits, such a waste right? Stop holding on to dead weight sis!

Trims are your friend not your enemy!

So many people absolutely hate and are against trims, but they are necessary and a vital part to your healthy hair journey. I have to warn potential clients all the time, “if you don’t like or believe in trims, I am NOT the stylist for you”. Trust me as your stylist and take my recommendations, I promise you will not regret it 🙂
